Sticky Fingers

One Sunday morning at church, before service began, I needed a way to keep Josiah entertained. He pointed to a roll of colored duct tape, so I put a piece on his hand and we pretended it was a bandage, or an "owie," as he calls it. It wasn't long before the owie lost it's fun factor and Josiah was bored again. Thats when I tried something new and it was a win with not only Josiah, but the other kids too!

Tape! It's incredible that we even spend big money on toys, games and junk when a simple roll of tape from the dollar store can keep a kid entertained for a long time!

Here's what we used:

  • A roll (or rolls) of tape (I like wider tapes such as Painters Tape Packing Tape and Duct Tape)
  • Anything you want to use to stick to the tape (pom poms, paper, small toys… I used folded and balled up pieces of tape from the same tape roll when I did this at church)

Thats it!

All thats left to do now is cut or rip off a piece of tape big enough to fit around your child's hand or just their four fingers, whichever you prefer. Roll the tape into a tube/circle with the sticky side facing out, and then slip the roll over your child's hand or fingers. Show them how to pick up the objects with their sticky fingers and watch them have a ball doing it over and over again! Easy, simple, FUN!

You can try a bunch of different things with this idea. How about an experiment of which object sticks better and why (different objects, different tapes)… Or how about picking up wet objects vs. dry ones? Or turn it into a game of who can pick up the most items in a certain amount of time! The possibilities are endless!

Oh, and you can't NOT high five someone with sticky fingers, especially when both of you have sticky fingers! Try it, it's fun!

If you and your littles do give this activity a try, I'd love to hear about how they liked (or disliked) it and what you did different! Leave me a comment below and be sure to follow us on Facebook and Pinterest!

Also, Josiah and I would like to wish each and every one of you a very happy New Year! Please be safe!
